Axar made his ODI debut on 15 June 2014 against Bangladesh and was later selected for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He began his domestic career with Gujarat, where he took 6 wickets for 55 runs in his second first-class match.

Axar started his IPL career with Mumbai Indians in 2013, but gained prominence with Kings XI Punjab in 2014, taking 17 wickets in his debut season. He was later signed by Delhi Capitals in 2019 and became one of their leading all-rounders.
