Jaaved Jaaferi was born on 4 December 1962 in Bombay (currently [[Mumbai]]), [[Maharashtra]] state, [[India]]. He is the son of the actor and comedian '''Jagdeep'''. While in school, he participated in many dance competitions at St. Theresa’s School.

Later, he joined National College in Mumbai to pursue his bachelor’s degree in psychology. In 1983, he won an all-India dance competition and was trained in dance in a dance academy in London.
