Dr. Sankha Subhra Devbarman was born on 2 April 1967 in Agartala, Tripura, India. His family background, which possesses deep cultural traditions, created an atmosphere that brought him up as a person of great importance. His father, Salil Debbarman, led the Gana Mukti Parishad as a major political figure while serving on the Agartala Municipal Corporation. His mother, Sabita Debbarman, works as a writer and social activist while participating in theatrical arts and serving her community through her work with the Tripura State Commission for Women.

Radha Mohan Thakur, his great grandfather, worked as a judge and held the position of chief judge while leading the Tripura Royal Army. He played an important role in formalizing Kokborok grammar. His great grandmother, Kumudini Devi, belonged to royalty as the daughter of King Birchandra Manikya.
