Rohit Sharma (born 30 April 1987) is an Indian international cricketer and the current captain of the Indian national team in all formats. Widely regarded as one of the most elegant and destructive openers in modern cricket, Rohit is known for holding the record for the highest individual score in ODIs — 264 runs.[1]
Early Life
Rohit was born in Bansod, Nagpur. He was raised by his grandparents and uncles in Borivali due to his family's limited finances. His cricket journey began at a camp organized by the BCCI in 1999, where his talent was spotted.[2]
Education
He studied at Swami Vivekanand International School, where cricket coach Dinesh Lad supported his early training.[3]
Career
Rohit made his debut in first-class cricket for Mumbai in 2006. He caught attention during the 2007 T20 World Cup with an unbeaten 50 against South Africa.[4]
International Career

He became a regular opener from 2013 and went on to smash three ODI double centuries.[5]
Captaincy
Rohit has captained India to Asia Cup titles in 2018 and led Mumbai Indians to five IPL trophies — 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.[6]
He was officially appointed full-time captain across formats in 2022.[7]

Rohit married Ritika Sajdeh in 2015. The couple has a daughter, Samaira. He is also an animal rights supporter and WWF-India Rhino Ambassador.[12]
