Born on December 28, 1937, in Mumbai, he was raised by his grandmother after his parents separated. Educated at Cornell University in architecture and later at Harvard Business School, Tata brought both vision and discipline to his leadership. He began his career in 1962 on the shop floor at Tata Steel, which shaped his understanding of business from the ground up.
He became Chairman of the Tata Group in 1991, succeeding J.R.D. Tata. Under his leadership, the conglomerate expanded internationally with landmark acquisitions like Tetley Tea (UK), Corus Steel (UK), and Jaguar Land Rover (UK), turning the Tata Group into a globally recognized name. He also introduced the Tata Nano, the world’s cheapest car at the time, reflecting his vision to make products affordable for the masses.
