Development
With its first-look poster featuring the Taj Mahal with a saffron flag and its reflection creating a Shiv Linga, the movie was formally announced in November 2023. In May 2024, Paresh Rawal used his X (Twitter) account to confirm his role.
Filming
The Taj Story's 45-day filming took place mostly in Dehradun and Agra, close to the Taj Mahal and Mehtab Bagh, starting on July 20, 2024. No flowers were used inside the monument due to ASI regulations. The filming was completed in November 2024.
Controversy and Reaction
Historical Accuracy Debate
Following its announcement, the film received criticism on social media, with many accusing it of spreading false historical claims. It reportedly draws inspiration from author P. N. Oak’s controversial theory that the Taj Mahal was originally a Hindu temple named *Tejo Mahalaya*—a claim dismissed by historians and the Supreme Court of India as baseless.
Poster Backlash
Paresh Rawal posted a motion poster in September 2025 that depicted an idol of Shiva rising from the Taj Mahal's dome. Following criticism, he removed the post and sent out a disclaimer from the production company stating that the movie is based on historical research and does not address religious matters.
Release
In April 2025, members of the UK House of Commons and Vedanta Group chairman Anil Agarwal attended special screenings of The Taj Story prior to its publication. The movie will be released in theaters on October 31, 2025, and the official teaser was released on August 14, 2025.
