Early Life & Education
Salman Khan was born on 27 December 1965 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The famous screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Sushila Charak (later Salma) are the parents of Salman Khan, who is the eldest son. He was brought up to embrace both religions after being born to a Muslim father and a Hindu mother. His grandfather, Abdul Rashid Khan, was the Deputy Inspector General of Indore State, and his paternal ancestors were Pashtuns from Afghanistan who immigrated to Indore in the 19th century. His mother is Maratha and Dogra Rajput.
Salman has two sisters, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and Arpita Khan Sharma, who he adopted, and two brothers, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan. After graduating from St. Stanislaus High School in Bandra, Mumbai, he briefly attended St. Xavier's College in Mumbai before leaving. Salman speaks English, Marathi, and Hindi with ease.
Career
S1988–1993: First Appearance and Significant Development
After making his screen debut in Biwi Ho To Aisi (1988), Salman Khan became an overnight sensation thanks to Sooraj Barjatya's Maine Pyar Kiya (1989). He followed it up with early hits like Saajan (1991), Sanam Bewafa, and Baaghi (1990).
1994–1999: Ascent to Fame Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! became a landmark in 1994, and Karan Arjun (1995) cemented his fame. He produced more hits by the late 1990s, including Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998 – Best Supporting Actor), Judwaa (1997), and Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998).
The Mixed Phase, 2000–2009
There were both successes and failures in the 2000s. Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), and Partner (2007) are some of the noteworthy movies from this era. But he lacked box office consistency until Wanted (2009) brought his career back to life.
Superstardom from 2010–2017
With consecutive hits like Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Kick (2014), Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Sultan (2016), and Tiger Zinda Hai (2017), Khan dominated the box office during this time. He became one of Bollywood's biggest stars after many of these surpassed the ₹200–300 crore mark.
Career Fluctuations from 2018–Present
His recent films, including Race 3 (2018), Bharat (2019), Dabangg 3 (2019), Radhe (2021), and Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan (2023), have received mixed or subpar reviews. Sikandar, his 2025 release, became one of his biggest failures since Yuvvraaj (2008), despite Tiger 3 (2023) doing mediocrely.
Other work
Production
Salman Khan started his own production company, SKBH Productions (Salman Khan Being Human Productions), in 2011. The Being Human Foundation receives a portion of the company's film profits. The children's movie Chillar Party (2011) was the first release under this banner and went on to win three National Film Awards: Best Children's Film, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Child Artist. Khan has also been the brand ambassador for the BMC's Open Defecation Free Drive since 2016.
Salman Khan Films (SKF)
He founded Salman Khan Films (SKF), another production company, in 2014. Dr. Cabbie (2014), a Canadian film, was its first release and made $350,452 on its first day of release. Later motion pictures made under SKF include:

Television
In 2008, Salman Khan hosted 10 Ka Dum, which became extremely popular and consistently held the number one spot in Indian television ratings. The show garnered an average TVR of 2.81 and a peak rating of 4.5, surpassing Shahrukh Khan's Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai? (average TVR 1.37, peak 2.3) and Hrithik Roshan's Junoon – Kuch Kar Dikhane Ka (average TVR 0.76, peak 1.1). The show helped Sony TV regain its third position in the Indian television ratings. Salman hosted 10 Ka Dum again in 2009, winning the Best Anchor Award in both 2008 and 2009.
In 2010, Salman hosted Bigg Boss 4, which was widely appreciated and surpassed even Amitabh Bachchan's hosting style. The grand finale on 8 January 2011 received a TRP of 6.7, the highest among finales of Indian reality shows like Kaun Banega Crorepati, Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayega, MasterChef, and DID – Li’l Masters. Due to its success, Salman hosted Bigg Boss 5 with Sanjay Dutt in 2011, and continued to host Bigg Boss 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and Bigg Boss Season 19, as well as the Star Guild Awards in 2013.
