Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah is an Indian politician and the current Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Co-operation in the Government of India. In addition, he is a close assoiate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Shah is regarded as the main strategist and one of the most significant political personalities in contemporary Indian politics.

Early Life & Education

Amit Shah was born on 22 October 1964 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a Gujarati Hindu Bania family. His father, Anil Chandra Shah, was a businessman in Mansa, Gujarat. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from C.U. Shah Science College in Ahmedabad.

Since his early years, Shah has been involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and he later joined the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the organization's student wing.

Career

Shah joined the BJP in 1987 after beginning his political career with the RSS in 1982. Because of his excellent managerial and organizing abilities, he swiftly advanced through the ranks and became an active member of the party's youth wing.

In 1997, he was elected as an MLA from the Sarkhej constituency. From 2002 to 2012, he was Chief Minister Narendra Modi's Minister of State for Home Affairs in Gujarat.

Shah was elected president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014, and he guided the party to significant electoral wins in India, including the general elections of 2014 and 2019. In 2019, he was appointed Home Minister of India, and in 2021, he assumed leadership as the nation's first Minister of Cooperation.
