Payel Mithai Sarkar was born on 6 September 1992 in Baranagar, Kolkata, West Bengal, India.Her father is Gopal Sarkar and mother is Baby Sarkar. She completed her early education at Holy Christ School, Baranagar, and Ananda Ashrama Sarada Vidyapeeth, Dumdum. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Bagbazar Women's College, Kolkata, and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Psychology from MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore.
In a significant academic achievement, Payel earned a Doctorate in Social Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Delhi, and was awarded a Gold Medal by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, recognizing her outstanding contribution to the field.
Career
Early Career
Payel started her career in television advertisements and modeling. She gained recognition in 2010 as the 2nd runner-up in the "Adwitiya Beauty Contest" organized by Keya Seth Aromatherapy. She later appeared in calendar shoots and print campaigns.

She made her television debut in the Star Jalsha serial *Bhalobasha.com* (2010) and appeared in shows such as *Tapur Tupur*, *Bene Bou*, *Tumi Robe Nirobe*, *Guru Dakshina*, *Bhakter Bhagaban Shri Krishna*, and *Andarmahal*.
She became widely known for roles in *Bhanumotir Khel*, *Kundo Phooler Mala*, *Ami Sirajer Begum* (2018), and *Advuture* (2018).

Personal Life
Payel is the daughter of Gopal Sarkar, owner of the Blue-Moon Restaurant, and Baby Sarkar, who runs a beauty parlour. Payel is deeply involved in politics and is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). She has also served as the West Bengal State General Secretary of All India Human Rights and is currently the state president of National Anti-Corruption & Crime Control Bureau.
