Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is a popular T20 cricket team from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Playing home games at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, it was one of the first teams established in 2008.
Like the Mumbai Indians, CSK has won five IPL titles, making them one of the most successful teams. In addition to winning the Champions League T20 twice, the team has advanced to numerous finals and playoffs. Stephen Fleming is the coach and Ruturaj Gaikwad is the leader of CSK.
The team won the IPL in 2018 after being suspended for two years due to a betting case. One of India's most valuable cricket teams is CSK.
History
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started its journey in IPL in 2008. The captaincy was given to MS Dhoni who was purchased for a record sum. In their first season, they played really well, reached the final but lost to Rajasthan Royals. The team was recognized for its strong leadership and consistency right from the very beginning.
CSK went through a phenomenal period from 2010-11. In 2010 they became the champions of IPL and in 2011 they succeeded in defending their title which made them the mightiest cricket team in the league. Besides, during this time period CSK was crowned the winner of the Champions League T20 twice (2010 and 2014). Some frontline players like Suresh Raina, Murali Vijay, and Ravichandran Ashwin were in the limelight during this era.
CSK was a regular playoff and finals attendee from 2012 to 2015 demonstrating a solid performance each season. To be precise, in 2015 the team had to face a two-year suspension for being involved in a betting case along with some officials.
The return of CSK in 2018 was marked with a dream come true title win in the IPL even in their first season back. The team kept on excelling by winning 2021 and 2023 titles therefore becoming one of the most successful franchises with five titles in IPL history.
MS Dhoni quit as captain in 2024 and announced Ruturaj Gaikwad as the new captain. CSK has recently been undergoing a reformation process in which it achieved mixed results, but it is still considered one of the most venerated and likable teams in the IPL.
In November 2025, before the auction for the 2026 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings made major changes to their squad. The franchise released 11 players, including four overseas players, as part of a team restructuring process.
Home Ground
The M. A. Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai is where the Chennai Super Kings play their home games. It can accommodate roughly 38,000 spectators and is one of India's oldest cricket stadiums. The stadium is also known as "Lions' Den" and "Fortress Chepauk."
A disagreement over the Chepauk stadium forced CSK to play home games in Ranchi in 2014. Due to security concerns in Chennai, some home games were held in Pune in 2018.
Team Colors & Logo
To honor the leaders of the ancient Tamil kingdoms, the franchise was given the name Chennai Super Kings. A public naming contest yielded over 25,000 entries, from which the name was chosen.
The team name is written in blue beneath the roaring orange lion with a crown on its head that represents strength and leadership in the team's logo. The team's primary color is yellow. The current jersey, which debuted in 2021, features a roaring lion pattern in the background and a camouflage design on the shoulders.
"Whistle Podu," which translates to "Blow the whistle," is CSK's well-known team anthem. Fans adore the most recent rendition of the anthem, which was released in 2018.

The team receives enormous support during home games and even in away games. The song "Whistle Podu" has become synonymous with the team and is often sung by the supporters. Chennai Super Kings has, since the very first season of the IPL, been one of the most reliable teams in that league.
