Wamiqa Gabbi is an Indian actress who performs in films and web series that are made in Punjabi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. She began her acting career by performing as a child artist in the movie Jab We Met which was released in 2007.

She became well known in Punjabi cinema because of her roles in the movies Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 and Nikka Zaildar 2 and Kali Jotta. Her work in web series such as Grahan and Mai: A Mother’s Rage and Jubilee brought her critical acclaim.

Her performance in Khufiya earned her a Filmfare OTT Award. She stars in the horror-comedy film Bhooth Bangla (2026) which features Akshay Kumar and Rajpal Yadav.

Wamiqa Gabbi was born on 29 September 1993 in Chandigarh, India, into a Punjabi family. Her father Govardhan Gabbi works as a writer who writes in both Hindi and Punjabi languages. She finished her education at St. Xavier's School which is located in Chandigarh before she enrolled in DAV College, Chandigarh to study Arts.[1][2][3][4][5]

Career

Early Work and Expansion (2007–2019)

Wamiqa Gabbi started her acting career at thirteen years old when she played a small character in Jab We Met which was released in 2007 and directed by Imtiaz Ali. She subsequently took on uncredited roles in Love Aaj Kal and Mausam and Bittoo Boss.

Her first lead role came in Sixteen (2013). Although the film was not successful commercially, her performance was appreciated.

She entered Punjabi cinema in the same year through Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22 which became a successful movie at the box office. She continued her career in Punjabi films through her work in Ishq Brandy and Ishq Haazir Hai.

She began her career in South Indian cinema through Bhale Manchi Roju and then made her Tamil debut with Maalai Naerathu Mayakkam.

She played a wrestler in the Malayalam film Godha which she appeared in during 2017. The film achieved success because of her performance which received high praise. The same year, she starred in Nikka Zaildar 2, earning critical recognition.

She established herself as a leading actress in Punjabi cinema through her continuing work in Punjabi films which included her performance in Nikka Zaildar 3 and other projects.

The period from 2020 to the present day shows increased recognition for artists through streaming platforms. Wamiqa Gabbi gained wider recognition through OTT platforms. She appeared in Galwakdi (2020), followed by a supporting role in 83 (2021).
