Allahabad University (AU)
University of Allahabad stands as one of India's most ancient and esteemed institutions which provides higher education to students from its location in Prayagraj. The university became operational on 23 September 1887 and thus became one of the first modern universities to establish educational programs in India while the government declared it an Institute of National Importance (INI) educational institution. The university's historical development began with Muir Central College which Sir William Muir established in 1873 and later transformed into the current university. The University of Allahabad Act 2005 which the Indian Parliament approved restored the university's status as a central university thus enhancing its national importance and autonomous powers.

The Visitor can order inspections, review reports, and suggest necessary reforms to improve the quality of education and administration. This position establishes to the university its direct link with central government authority while it establishes itself as a central university and Institute of National Importance.
Chief Rector – Governor of Uttar Pradesh
The Governor of Uttar Pradesh serves as the Chief Rector of the university. The Governor functions as the primary state-level supervision authority through this position. The Chief Rector maintains university-state government relations through policy implementation and administrative functions and development activities. The position requires ceremonial duties but holds vital value because it enables the university to meet state educational goals.
