Established in 1995 by Dr Sambhu Chakraborty, IAQM initially focused on medical laboratory quality, reliability of diagnostic test results, quality control, and laboratory accreditation awareness. Over the years, its training activities expanded to cover healthcare organizations, medical laboratories, testing and calibration laboratories, blood banks, diagnostic centres, and other quality-oriented institutions.
Today, training, education, and professional capacity building are the principal activities of the Institute of Applied Quality Management. IAQM conducts training on internationally recognized standards and accreditation frameworks including ISO 15189, ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 7101, NABL, NABH, JCI, CAP, AABB, ACHS, and other quality management systems.
The Institute's consultancy activities, which historically formed part of IAQM's services, are presently undertaken principally through its associated organization, IAQM Consultants Pvt. Ltd. This structure enables IAQM to concentrate on professional education and competency development while IAQM Consultants Pvt. Ltd. provides consultancy, implementation, gap analysis, documentation, and accreditation-preparation support.
History
The Institute of Applied Quality Management started its journey in 1995 under the leadership of its founder and Director, Dr Sambhu Chakraborty, with an emphasis on developing practical quality management practices for medical laboratories.
During its formative years, IAQM focused particularly on medical laboratory quality management, test-result reliability, quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory accreditation awareness.
In 2000, IAQM and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) jointly conducted an accreditation-promotion programme in Kolkata. The initiative formed part of IAQM's early activities aimed at increasing awareness of laboratory accreditation and quality systems in Eastern India.
As accreditation practices developed, the Institute extended its training activities into ISO 15189 for medical laboratories and ISO/IEC 17025 for testing and calibration laboratories. Its professional scope subsequently expanded to healthcare accreditation and standards including NABH, JCI, CAP, AABB, ACHS, and ISO 7101.
IAQM's attached organizational profile reflects this progression from medical laboratory quality into hospital accreditation, blood-bank accreditation, testing and calibration laboratory quality, and professional training.

This integrated approach is intended to improve the dependability and clinical validity of laboratory results, while preparing professionals to implement accreditation standards such as ISO 15189.
