New Delhi is the capital city of India and one of the 11 districts of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. It serves as the seat of all three branches of the Government of India – executive, legislative, and judiciary.[1] New Delhi is also home to the official residences of India's President (Rashtrapati Bhavan) and Prime Minister.

History

New Delhi was officially declared the capital of British India in 1911, replacing Calcutta. The city was planned by British architects Sir Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker and formally inaugurated in 1931.[2]
