On 13 April 1919 British troops opened fire on a peaceful gathering at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar which resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries. The incident became a major turning point in India's freedom struggle which led to increased resistance against British rule throughout the entire country.
On 6 April 1930 Mahatma Gandhi broke the British Salt Law to strengthen the Civil Disobedience Movement. The march from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi inspired mass participation across the country.
The Supreme Court of India established the Basic Structure Doctrine on 24 April 1973. The court decision stated that Parliament holds the authority to amend the Constitution but Parliament cannot change the Constitution's basic framework.
