Ramayana: Part 1 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language epic action fantasy movie that s directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and produced by Namit Malhotra under Prime Focus Studios, in association with Monster Mind Creations and DNEG. This one is based on the ancient Indian epic Ramayana by Valmiki, and yes it’s the first movie, from a planned two part film run. It has Ranbir Kapoor playing Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, plus Ravi Dubey taking on Lakshman roles.
The film brings music by A. R. Rahman, while the background score is composed by Hans Zimmer. It’s set for a worldwide theatrical release on 6 November 2026 around the Diwali festival time.[1][2]
Premise
Set in the old kingdom of Ayodhya Ramayana: Part 1 traces the early days of Prince Rama. His marriage to Princess Sita starts out fine but then, it gets overshadowed by strange circumstances that push him into exile, like out of nowhere almost. Together with his faithful brother Lakshman Rama steps into a life turning pathway that checks his nerve, his obligations, and his righteousness. And as shadowy powers begin to rise, the movie basically lays down the ground work for one of India’s biggest epics, pushing the story toward a clash that keeps going in the second installment.[3]

Production
The making of the film started a few years before the actual production phase, with the team aiming for a big, cinematic adaptation of the ancient Indian epic, Ramayana . In this sense, the screenplay was handled by Shridhar Raghavan, but at the same time a lot of research and visual refinement was also done, to shape an authentic yet somehow modern retelling of the tale.
Principal photography kicked off in April 2024 in Mumbai. The production relied on large sets, advanced visual effects , motion-capture tech, and even international stunt crews, to rebuild the epic’s world the way it should feel. Once the first film wrapped up, the next installment started being worked on from January 2025. The visual effects are being done by DNEG, and post-production is set to continue for a few months, before the final release.
Soundtrack
For the songs, the music is composed by A. R. Rahman, while the original background score is by Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, which also counts as his first Indian film venture. The lyrics are written by Kumar Vishwas, and the soundtrack release is expected to happen ahead of the film’s theatrical opening.
Release
Ramayana: Part 1 is planned for theatres worldwide on 6 November 2026 during the Diwali festival. The film will be released in Hindi, and it’s also expected to be dubbed into several Indian and international languages.
Marketing
The first real announcement came with a title poster that was released by producer Namit Malhotra . Since then, promotional updates have been describing the film as one of the most ambitious Indian productions ever put together. The teaser and trailer are likely to drop nearer the theatrical launch, then later there will be music drops, interviews and promotional happenings with the cast featured prominently.
