Karisma Kapoor is an Indian actress, mainly known for her work in Hindi movies. She is often seen as one of the top leading ladies of the 1990s, and the early 2000s. Kapoor has received several honors, including a National Film Award, plus a number of Filmfare Awards.
She came from the well known Kapoor clan, and made her first acting appearance with Prem Qaidi (1991). After that she became one of Bollywood’s major stars, through films like Raja Babu, Coolie No. 1, Saajan Chale Sasural, Raja Hindustani, Dil To Pagal Hai, Biwi No.1, Fiza, and Zubeidaa.
Besides films, Kapoor also showed up as a television figure and a reality show judge. She was a judge on India's Best Dancer Season 4, and then came back again as a judge on India's Best Dancer Season 5 alongside Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis.[1][2][3]
Early Life and Education
Karisma Kapoor was born on 25 June 1974 in Bombay, Maharashtra, India to the actors Randhir Kapoor and Babita. She’s part of that famous Kapoor family, the one tied to the Indian film industry. Her younger sister Kareena Kapoor is also a successful Bollywood actress.
She studied at Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai, and later attended Sophia College for Women. Watching actresses like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, Kapoor slowly grew a strong interest in acting.
Career
Film Career
Karisma Kapoor started her acting path with Prem Qaidi back in 1991. After that she got a good pull, and people really noticed her via a few hit movies like Jigar, Anari, Raja Babu, Coolie No.1, Saajan Chale Sasural and Jeet.
Her biggest shift in the right direction came from Raja Hindustani (1996) opposite Aamir Khan, and for that she picked up the Filmfare Award for Best Actress . Later on she also got strong critical praise for Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), and won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Kapoor kept the momentum with films such as Hero No.1, Biwi No.1, Hum Saath-Saath Hain , Fiza, Zubeidaa and Shakti: The Power.
Once she took a break from movies, she came back through things like Dangerous Ishhq, the web series Mentalhood and the film Murder Mubarak.
Television Career
Karisma Kapoor made a television debut with Karishma – The Miracles of Destiny . Then she showed up on several reality shows as a judge, including Nach Baliye and Hans Baliye.
She got fresh attention again as a judge on India’s Best Dancer. She appeared in India’s Best Dancer Season 4 , then returned again for India’s Best Dancer Season 5 with Geeta Kapur and Terence Lewis.
Other Works
Besides acting, Kapoor has taken part in stage presentations, charity events, and brand endorsements. She also wrote a motherhood-themed book called My Yummy Mummy Guide.

Personal Life
Karisma Kapoor was married to businessman Sunjay Kapur in 2003. The couple divorced in 2016 and have two children. She is known to maintain balance between her career and family life, and still is one of the most renowned actresses of Bollywood.
