Urvashi Dholakia is an Indian television actress and reality show personality. She is best known for her iconic portrayal of Komolika in the popular television serial Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Urvashi Dholakia was born on 9 July 1978 in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She began working in the entertainment industry as a child artist, gaining early exposure to television production and acting. Growing up in the public eye required maturity and resilience, which later became defining aspects of her personality.
She completed her schooling in Mumbai. Due to her early acting career, balancing studies and work was challenging, but she managed both with dedication. Although she did not pursue higher academic degrees, her years of professional experience became her greatest learning platform.
Early Career
Urvashi started her career in the late 1980s as a child artist in television shows and advertisements, where she gained confidence and a good understanding of the entertainment industry. Her major breakthrough came in 2001 when she was selected to play the role of Komolika in Kasautii Zindagii Kay. The character soon became a phenomenon, with her legendary background song, dramatic looks, and powerful dialogue delivery leaving a lasting impact on the audience. Komolika changed the face of female villains on Indian television and made Urvashi a household name and one of the most remembered performers on Indian television.
After the huge success of her character, Urvashi went on to perform in various television shows, such as Kabhii Sautan Kabhii Sahelii, Saat Phere, and Chandramukhi. However, after gaining massive popularity as Komolika, she became choosy about her roles to prevent herself from being labeled as a villain. She deliberately opted for quality over quantity, even if it meant fewer assignments, to maintain her individuality and long-term presence in the television industry.
In 2012, Urvashi participated in Bigg Boss Season 6 and emerged as the winner. Her journey on the show highlighted her mental strength, emotional intelligence, and fearless individuality. Winning the show revived her popularity and introduced her to a new generation of viewers.
In 2026, Urvashi joined the reality competition show The 50, hosted by Farah Khan. The show featured 50 contestants competing in strategic and physical challenges.
