Manoj Kumar Tiwari is an Indian politician, singer, and actor. He has been serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for North East Delhi since 2014. He first contested the 2009 General Elections from Gorakhpur as a Samajwadi Party candidate but lost to Yogi Adityanath. He later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014 and went on to win elections. He became the Delhi BJP's president in 2016 and guided the party to a resounding win in the 2017 MCD Elections.

Early Life & Education

Manoj Tiwari was born on 1 February 1971 in Kabir Chaura, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He is one of six children of Chandradev Tiwari and Lalita Devi. His ancestry is from the Bihar village of Atarwalia in the Kaimur district. He graduated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) with a Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.).

Career

Film & Music

Manoj Tiwari was a well-known Bhojpuri singer and actor before going into politics. After his 2003 film "Sasura Bada Paisawala," he went on to stardom with "Daroga Babu I Love You" and "Bandhan Toote Na."


Along with Ravi Kishan, he was dubbed one of the biggest stars of Bhojpuri cinema by the BBC in 2005. In the movie Gangs of Wasseypur, he also performed the well-known Bollywood song "Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala."

Political Career

In 2009, Manoj Tiwari made his political debut. He ran with the Samajwadi Party for the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat, but Yogi Adityanath defeated him.

By a margin of 1.44 lakh votes, he won the North East Delhi seat after joining the BJP in 2014. He defeated Sheila Dikshit by 3.63 lakh votes in 2019 and won the same seat once more.

He kept his seat in 2024 after defeating Kanhaiya Kumar (Congress) by a margin of 1.38 lakh votes.


Personal Life

Manoj Tiwari married Rani Tiwari in 1999, and they have one daughter, Rhiti. The couple divorced in 2012. He later married Surbhi Tiwari, and they have two daughters, born in 2020 and 2022.
