Dhruv Rathee is an Indian YouTuber, activist, and social media educator. He is well known for his fact-based explanatory videos on politics, society, economy, and environmental issues. Rathee has also built a global audience through travel vlogs, podcasts, and shows which making him one of India’s most influential digital creators.
Early Life & Education
Dhruv Rathee was born on 8 October 1994 in Haryanvi. He completed his schooling in Haryana. After that, he moved to Germany for higher studies. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Later, he got his master’s degree in Renewable Energy from (KIT).[1][2]
Career
Dhruv Rathee started his YouTube journey in 2013 by uploading videos related to his travels. By the end of the same year, he had already made a big change in his content direction, thus becoming among the first Indian YouTubers to deliver political commentaries on platform by using such a medium. His main topics are contemporary politics and Society in terms of facts verification, explanations, and analysis of occurrences. He also launched a comical section named "Pee News" where he portrays light-hearted and made-up news stories.
During the period from 2017 to early 2020, he was a columnist for ThePrint. Over the years his coverage of the political events and controversies has been quite extensive and at times his work has been also criticized for being biased. In July 2020, he commenced another YouTube channel under the name “Dhruv Rathee Vlogs” where he uploads travel videos from different countries. Besides vlogging, he has been a host for the shows such as DW Travel for Deutsche Welle and Decode with Dhruv for Netflix India. On Spotify, he has a podcast “Maha Bharat with Dhruv Rathee," which he presents.
In 2022, Rathee started a channel for shorts where he publishes 30-second videos that are based on facts only and are intended for rapid and easy learning. He also had a controversy the same year when one of his videos regarding the political upheaval in Pakistan was barred by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for showing a disputed map. In 2023, he once more found himself in the middle of a copyright dispute after Dabur lodged a complaint against his video “The dark-side of cold drinks,” which was subsequently ordered to be taken down by the Calcutta High Court.
Rathee was named as one of the Next Generation Leaders in the TIME magazine list of 2023.[3]Thereafter, in the month of April 2024, he revealed the existence of five more YouTube channels which are dedicated to publishing dubbed content in local languages like Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and Kannada.[4]

Dhruv Rathee lives in Germany. In November 2021, he married to Juli Lbr, at the Belvedere Palace in Vienna, Austria. The pair had a baby in September 2024.[5][6][7]
