Jaaved Jaaferi (born Syed Jaaved Ahmed Jaffrey) is a renowned Indian actor, dancer, comedian, producer, TV host, and politician who gained fame through his performances in Hindi movies and TV shows. He is the son of the famous actor and comedian Jagdeep.

Jaaved Jaaferi gained fame because of his comedic talent, dancing talent, hosting on various TV programs, and voice narration. Some of the movies he has performed in include Meri Jung, Dhamaal, Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum, and 3 Idiots. He has been a judge on several TV shows including Boogie Woogie and narrator of the Takeshi’s Castle Hindi version.

He joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2014 and ran for a seat in Parliament as the AAP candidate during the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow constituency.

Early Life and Education

Jaaved Jaaferi was born on 4 December 1962 in Bombay (currently Mumbai), Maharashtra state, India. He is the son of the actor and comedian Jagdeep. While in school, he participated in many dance competitions at St. Theresa’s School.

Later, he joined National College in Mumbai to pursue his bachelor’s degree in psychology. In 1983, he won an all-India dance competition and was trained in dance in a dance academy in London.

Career

Film Career

Jaaved Jaaferi started his film career with Meri Jung in 1985. In it he played a negative part , and people gradually started to notice him, not only for his acting , but also for his dancing.

After that he went on to do quite a lot of Bollywood films, like 100 Days, Boom, Salaam Namaste, Dhamaal, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Singh Is Kinng, 3 Idiots, Double Dhamaal, Bang Bang!, Total Dhamaal, and Bhoot Police.

He also produced documentary films such as Inshallah, Football and Inshallah, Kashmir.

Television Career

During the 1990s, Jaaved Jaaferi became a household name on television. He hosted and judged several entertainment and dance shows, including Boogie Woogie, Flashback, Road Raja, Kaboom, and Once More With Jaaved Jaaferi.

He’s especially known for presenting Boogie Woogie together with his brother Naved Jaffrey and actor Ravi Behl. Over time, the show turned into one of the most popular dance reality programmes in India.

In 2026, Jaaved Jaaferi appeared in India's Best Dancer Season 5 along with Geeta Kapur, Karisma Kapoor, and Terence Lewis. His dance background, stage experience, and television presence gave the show a sort of distinct entertainment flavor.

Voice Acting and Commentary

Jaaved Jaaferi is also well recognized for his comical commentary in the Hindi versions of Japanese TV shows like Takeshi’s Castle and Ninja Warrior.

He also provided Hindi dubbing voices for animated films such as The Jungle Book 2 and The Incredibles.

Advertising Career

Beyond movies and television, he has worked in adverts too, as an actor, a producer, and even as a copywriter. He became particularly noticeable through the Maggi Hot & Sweet Sauce commercials.

Political Career

In 2014, Jaaved Jaaferi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and contested the Lok Sabha Elections from Lucknow against BJP leader Rajnath Singh. He finished fifth in the election.

Achievements and Recognition

Jaaved Jaaferi got the IIFA Award for Best Comic Role for Salaam Namaste in 2006, and yeah he was also nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Comic Role at the same time sort of.

Then later as a producer, he won the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues for Inshallah, Football in 2011, like not just once.

He also got a life membership from the International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television . After that in 2015 he became the brand ambassador of the India International Animation and Cartoon Film Festival, it was announced in 2015.

Personal Life

Jaaved Jaaferi married Pakistani actress Zeba Bakhtiar in 1989 but the relationship ended in divorce in 1990, then he remarried. In 1991 he married Habiba Jaffrey and they have three children, one of them is actor Meezaan Jafri, who people know well too.
