Debiprasad Mukherjee is an Indian documentary photographer, journalist, author, and researcher who comes from Howrah, West Bengal. His work leans heavily into social, cultural , humanitarian, and environmental themes, all told through photography and that visual storytelling style.[1][2]
He is the author of The Stars Are His Bones and Sound of Silence. His photographs have shown up in well known international outlets like, Vogue Italia, National Geographic and The Irish Times , plus theyve been featured at a lot of photography festivals and exhibitions around the world. In 2019, he served as the first Convener of the Kolkata International Photography Festival, (KIPF), and he was also a Global Carbon Ambassador at the World Climate Summit held in Spain.
Mukherjee has picked up several international photography awards and recognitions, and he’s broadly seen for his documentary photography work, photojournalism, and more general global visual storytelling narratives.[3]
Early Life and Education
Debiprasad Mukherjee was born in 1982 Howrah, West Bengal, and completed his schooling at Howrah Zilla School. He graduated in Electrical Engineering , and later gained postgraduate qualifications in Business Management from Liverpool Business School, as well as the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He is a Doctoral Scholar at the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi, and an Executive Alumni of Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.
His photography training includes The Art of Photography from RMIT University, Melbourne, The Language of Design from California Institute of the Arts and the Perfect Exposure MasterClass under well known photographer Michael Freeman .
Career
Debiprasad Mukherjee is an independent documentary photographer, where his images lean toward socio-political realities, cultural variety, humanitarian concerns, and environmental shifts, kind of like that. He thinks photography is a forceful medium for social memory , and also for wider global attention.[4][5]
His documentary and photojournalism endeavors have already taken him through 54+ countries across Asia, Europe, Africa , North America, South America, and the Middle East . His photographs have been featured in a lot of international outlets including Vogue Italia, National Geographic, The Irish Times, Dodho Magazine, Private Photo Review, MonoVisions, Life Force Magazine, plus various other photography and cultural journals.[6][7]
Mukherjee has written the books The Stars Are His Bones (ISBN: 978-08-9304-708-5) and Sound of Silence (ISBN: 978-93-5279-108-8).
In 2019 , he acted as the first Convener of the Kolkata International Photography Festival (KIPF). That same year , he was named a Global Carbon Ambassador at the World Climate Summit in Spain. He has also served on juries for 15+ international photography festivals , displays, and competitions. His work has been shown at more than 35 international exhibition spots and festivals including events in China, South Korea, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and the United States.[8]
