India Hood is an Indian bilingual digital news platform that publishes content in both Bengali and English. It is operated by Hoodgen Pvt. Ltd. and was founded on 10 February 2022 by Krishna Chandra Garain and Koushik Dutta. With the tagline “News That Matters for You”, India Hood positions itself as a digital-first media outlet focused on accessible, time-efficient, and accurate journalism.
History
India Hood was launched with the vision of providing a trustworthy alternative to sensationalized media. Recognizing the lack of credible bilingual platforms, founders Krishna Chandra Garain and Kaushik Dutta—both with nearly a decade of experience in digital media and content—introduced India Hood as a space where readers could find in-depth news without unnecessary noise.[1] The Bengali-language site, IndiaHood.in, primarily focuses on news, politics, entertainment, and regional issues relevant to West Bengal and the Bengali-speaking diaspora. Simultaneously, the English-language site, IndiaHood.com, was designed for professionals, entrepreneurs, and readers across India, with strong coverage of business, startups, technology, and policy-related journalism.
Organization and Infrastructure
At its inception, India Hood was owned and operated by India Hood Digital, a partnership firm created to manage the bilingual platform. As the platform grew and expanded operations, ownership transitioned to Hoodgen Private Limited, a registered company overseeing the brand’s editorial, technological, and business operations.[2]
The platform employs a team of over 20 journalists, editors, writers, and engineers who collectively work on news gathering, editing, technology development, and content distribution.[3] The editorial team is supported by engineers specializing in web development and AI-driven tools, ensuring that the site remains modern, scalable, and reader-friendly.
Editorial Philosophy
India Hood emphasizes reporting over opinion. The platform’s guiding principle is to provide readers with maximum information and factual details rather than subjective commentary. Reports are structured to include multiple perspectives, verifiable data, and credible sources, giving readers the tools to form their own opinions. By prioritizing substance over sensation, India Hood differentiates itself from competitors that rely heavily on speculative or opinion-driven content. The editorial approach also ensures that both its Bengali and English portals maintain a strong reputation among diverse reader segments.[4]
Reach and Readership
As of 2025, India Hood reports reaching over five million monthly readers across its two platforms.[5] IndiaHood.in attracts the majority of its audience from West Bengal, while IndiaHood.com draws readers from across India as well as among diaspora communities. The readership is largely composed of younger audiences, with a significant proportion in the 18–34 age group. Both websites are mobile-first and rely heavily on social media distribution. India Hood also maintains subscriber bases on WhatsApp and Telegram, where it circulates daily updates.[6][7]
Organization and Infrastructure
India Hood is owned and operated by Hoodgen Pvt. Ltd. The company’s headquarters is located in Chinsurah, Hooghly, West Bengal. Its team includes journalists, editors, writers, and engineers who manage both editorial and technical operations. The platform operates as a fully digital news organization, with content production, design, and distribution optimized for online audiences.[8]
Funding and Business Model
India Hood operates as a bootstrapped media venture. Its primary revenue streams include advertising and affiliate partnerships. The company has stated that advertisements are clearly marked to distinguish them from editorial content, and that affiliate content or branded collaborations are disclosed for transparency. Revenue is used to expand editorial capacity, maintain technology infrastructure, and support newsroom operations.[9]
Recognition
India Hood has been covered by News18 Hindi, The Print, and Agniban, which have noted its bilingual strategy and focus on journalism over sensationalism. These reports have described the platform as part of a newer generation of digital-first media outlets seeking to combine local reporting with broader national coverage.[10]
