He plays domestic cricket for Mumbai and competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings. Ayush Yogesh Mhatre was born on 16 July 2007 in Nallasopara, Maharashtra, India. He belongs to a family that speaks Marathi. Ayush began his cricket career at six years old but he started his professional cricket journey when he turned fifteen. To achieve his goals, he traveled approximately 80 kilometers from Virar to Churchgate to attend practice sessions.
Career
Ayush played for India Under-19 team during the years 2024 and 2025, and he served as their captain during the year 2025. He guided India Under-19 team during their tour to England where they achieved victory in the Youth ODI series by winning three matches and losing two matches, and in Australia they won the Youth ODI series by winning three matches and the Youth Test series by winning two matches. He led India U19 to victory in the 2026 U19 World Cup, scoring 214 runs across 7 matches, including half-centuries in the semi-final against Afghanistan and the final against England.
Domestic Career
Ayush made his first-class debut for Mumbai in October 2024 during the Irani Cup at the age of 17. He achieved his first first-class century by scoring 176 runs against Maharashtra in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy. He became the youngest player to achieve 150-plus runs in men's List A cricket when he reached this milestone in December 2024, which surpassed the previous record held by Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Indian Premier League
Ayush was signed by Chennai Super Kings to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad who suffered an injury during the 2025 IPL season. He made his first appearance on 20 April 2025 when he played against Mumbai Indians and scored 32 runs from 15 balls. He achieved a score of 94 runs from 48 balls on 3 May 2025 when he played against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The player achieved a total of 240 runs during the season which he accomplished at a strike rate of 188.97 because his performance established him as a top-order 'Gen-Z' player who shows no fear when batting.
