Kartik Sharma is an Indian cricketer who plays as a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter. He is playing domestic cricket for Rajasthan and was purchased by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹14.2 crore at the IPL 2026 auction.[1][2] He is the most expensive uncapped player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Kartik's primary weapon is his power-hitting and the ability to finish the match in limited-overs cricket.
Early life & Education
Kartik Sharma was born on 26 April 2006 in Rajasthan, India.[3] He started playing cricket at a very young age, literally on the streets of his locality, and then got admission in a cricket academy. His coaches noticed his talent very early as he was hitting the ball cleanly and was a fearless batter. He went on to play Rajasthan at the levels of Under-14, Under-16, and Under-19. Kartik has also said in an interview MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli are his idols in cricket.
Career
Kartik Sharma has been a standout player in all domestic formats of the game. In first-class cricket, he has amassed 479 runs in just 11 innings at an average of 43.54. His 3 centuries have been a testament to his ability to go long and play a very composed and disciplined innings. In List A cricket, he has racked up 445 runs in 9 matches to boast a batting average of 55.62. Included in his innings are two centuries and two half-centuries. Kartik in the T20s is a hard-hitting batsman who likes to go after the bowlers. In 12 matches, he accumulated 334 runs at a strike rate close to 163 while hitting 28 sixes. He was the top scorer for his team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scoring 133 runs in 5 matches at a strike rate of 160.24. He also caught attention as he scored freely against high-quality spin bowling. Kartik was the hottest property at the IPL 2026 auction with Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad involved in a bidding war for him. CSK finally bought him for ₹14.2 crore, thus, showing immense faith in his bright future.[4][5]
