The daughter of film producer Boney Kapoor and actress Sridevi, she made her acting debut in Dhadak (2018), a commercial success. Janhvi Kapoor was born on 6 March 1997 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, to film producer Boney Kapoor and legendary actress Sridevi. She is the elder daughter in the family and has a younger sister, Khushi Kapoor. She is also related to the Kapoor film family, including Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor.
Kapoor studied at Dhirubhai Ambani International School in Mumbai and later pursued an acting course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, Los Angeles.

Kapoor made her acting debut with Dhadak (2018), opposite Ishaan Khatter, a Hindi remake of the Marathi hit Sairat. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a box-office success, and her performance was noted. She won the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.
