Sakib Hussain is an Indian cricketer plays for Bihar in domestic games and for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His bowling style combines right-arm medium pace delivery with effective wicket-taking skills.

Early Life

Sakib Hussain was born on 14 December 2004 in Gopalganj, Bihar to a family which faced financial difficulties. His father works as a labourer. Despite facing hardships, Sakib developed a strong passion for cricket from a young age.

He spent multiple hours at Minz Stadium which is located in his hometown to watch matches and acquire game knowledge until he received formal training.

Career

Sakib received his first significant chance in 2021 when he played for Gaya Gladiators in the Bihar Cricket League. He later participated in an Under-19 tournament in Chandigarh and was selected for a BCCI High-Performance Camp.

He made his T20 debut in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His first match proved unsuccessful yet he returned to form by taking four wickets against Gujarat which made him popular.

He made his first-class debut in October 2024 against Karnataka. He achieved remarkable success during the 2025–26 Ranji Trophy by taking 10 wickets against Arunachal Pradesh which included 6/51 in the first innings.

Indian Premier League

Sakib Hussain was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 auction but did not get a chance to play. He was later released and went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction.

In the IPL 2026 auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for ₹30 lakh. He made a historic IPL debut against Rajasthan Royals, taking 4 wickets for 24 runs.

He became one of the few players in IPL history to take four or more wickets on debut and recorded one of the best debut bowling figures.
