Career
Early Career (2003–2007)
In the popular movie Tujhe Meri Kasam (2003), Riteish Deshmukh made his screen debut and was nominated for Best Male Debut. He won awards for his comedic performance in the comedy Masti (2004), which was his big break. His comedic roles in movies like Kyaa Kool Hain Hum (2005), Bluffmaster! (2005), Malamaal Weekly (2006), Apna Sapna Money Money (2006), and Heyy Babyy (2007) helped him gain popularity over the following few years. His 2007 movie Dhamaal was a huge box office success.
Comeback & Acclaim (2008–2014)
Riteish had mixed results between 2008 and 2010, with some movies doing poorly and others doing fairly well. With Housefull (2010), which became one of the highest-grossing films of the year, he achieved widespread success once more. Between 2011 and 2013, he delivered several hits such as Double Dhamaal, Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, Housefull 2, Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum and Grand Masti.
He received widespread acclaim and an IIFA Award in 2014 after shocking critics with his sinister portrayal of a serial killer in Ek Villain. Lai Bhaari, his Marathi film debut, was also a huge hit that year.
Ups & Downs (2015–2021)
During this time, Riteish's films experienced both successes and failures. He recovered with hits like Housefull 3 (2016), Total Dhamaal (2019), and Housefull 4 (2019), the latter of which became his highest-grossing movie at the time, despite Bangistan (2015), Bank Chor (2017), and a few sequels performing poorly. Additionally, he acted in another Marathi film, Mauli (2018), which did well.
New Phase & Success (2022–present)
Riteish starred opposite Genelia in the Marathi film Ved, which marked his directorial debut in 2022. The movie was a huge success and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Marathi movies ever. He made his streaming debut with the series Pill in 2024 and received favorable reviews for his roles in Kakuda and Visfot. In 2025, he returned to comedy with Housefull 5 and portrayed a dishonest politician in Raid 2, both of which were box office hits. Deshmukh starred in the Mastiii 4 sequel, which was his last release of the year.
He will make an appearance in Dhamaal 4 and is presently working on the Marathi-Hindi bilingual Raja Shivaji.
